Commending Loretta Tate.

WHEREAS, Loretta Tate of Virginia Beach is recognized for her outstanding civic leadership and her vision for the Republican Party; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Tate was born in Princess Anne County on November 4, 1936, attended Oceana High School, was class salutatorian and active in the school alumni association, and graduated from Mary Washington College; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Tate began her volunteer work for the Republican Party of Virginia Beach in 1969; worked on and managed political campaigns on the local, state, and national levels; and managed United States Senator John Warner’s Norfolk office for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, an inspirational leader in local civic and political affairs, Loretta Tate served in key positions on numerous women’s political organizations, including as a board member of the Virginia Beach Republican Women’s Club; as president of the Princess Anne Republican Women’s Club; as first vice president of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women; and as a leader of the Beach Suburban Republican Women’s Club in a variety of offices; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Tate also served as treasurer and chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach for a number of years, was named chairman emeritus, and is a member of the Republican Party of the Virginia Second District Committee; and

WHEREAS, concerned with the well-being of all of the residents of Hampton Roads, Loretta Tate served on the board of the Inlynnview Civic League, as president of the Virginia Beach General Hospital Medical Auxiliary, and as chairman of the Department of Rehabilitative Services Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, because of her vast knowledge and experience in local political affairs, Loretta Tate was instrumental in laying the foundation of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Loretta Tate for her outstanding civic leadership; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Loretta Tate as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her tireless efforts on behalf of her fellow citizens of the Commonwealth.
