066185808WHEREAS, Gene Hampton Amos of Bassett, a respected citizen and community leader, died on November 8, 2005; and
WHEREAS, a native of Patrick County, Gene Amos was born on June 1, 1948, and received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Virginia Tech; and
WHEREAS, Gene Amos served as a Virginia Cooperative Extension agent for both Patrick and Henry Counties, retiring after 26 years of exemplary service; and
WHEREAS, Gene Amos generously gave of his time and immense talents as a member of numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Henry County Farm Bureau, the Henry County Bookkeepers Association, the Virginia Agriculture Agents Association, the National Agriculture Agents Association, the Virginia Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, and the Master Gardener Association; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the Rangeley Ruritan Club for many years, Gene Amos was honored posthumously by his fellow club members with the Ruritan of the Year award, and a plaque was presented to his wife, Mary, in December 2005; and
WHEREAS, Gene Amos will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his beloved family, his numerous friends and colleagues, and the citizens of Patrick and Henry Counties; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Gene Hampton Amos; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gene Hampton Amos as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
