2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Marie Butler Thomas, a native of Carrsville and the daughter of the late John and Mildred Butler, died on October 1, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Marie Butler Thomas was born on March 20, 1900, in Carrsville, attended area schools, and later moved to East Orange, New Jersey, where she lived for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, Marie Butler Thomas married the late McKinley Thomas, also from New Jersey, and they had one daughter, Beatrice Lawrence; and
WHEREAS, as a caring and outgoing young person, Marie Butler Thomas was active in local activities and was a dedicated member of Pulaski Baptist Church in Carrsville; after moving to New Jersey, she became a devoted member of Union Baptist Church in East Orange; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate citizen, who was always helpful to her neighbors and dutiful to the needs of the community, Marie Butler Thomas will be remembered for her generous, kind, and loving nature; and
WHEREAS, Marie Butler Thomas will be sorely missed by her family, her numerous friends and admirers, the residents of Carrsville, and the congregation of Union Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Marie Butler Thomas; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marie Butler Thomas as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
