068303740WHEREAS, a native of Bland County and a current resident of Henrico County, John Scott, deputy superintendent of the Virginia State Police, retired on August 1, 2005; and
WHEREAS, John Scott began his university study in education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, but through scouting and childhood exposure and mentoring by troopers, he was drawn to a career in law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, an innovative and experienced administrator, Lieutenant Colonel Scott joined the Virginia State Police in 1965, working in Galax, Warsaw, and then in Culpeper, where he served as division commander from 1986 to 1989; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Scott's long and prestigious career included service as deputy director of the Bureau of Administrative and Support Services, as well as both deputy director and director of the Bureau of Field Operations and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and tireless community contributor, Lieutenant Colonel Scott intends to remain involved in charitable organizations that benefit the homeless and the elderly; and
WHEREAS, through sincere commitment and support of his fellow troopers and an unwavering dedication to law enforcement excellence, Lieutenant Colonel Scott demonstrates superior leadership, as well as great institutional knowledge and expertise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend John Scott for his 40 years of invaluable service to the citizens of the Commonwealth and the Virginia State Police; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Scott as an expression of the General Assembly's immense gratitude for his numerous contributions and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
