Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 56-234.6 as follows:

§ 56-234.6.  Termination of utility service to military personnel.

A. Service provided by a public utility to a residence occupied by an individual customer who is on active duty in the military or naval services of the United States shall not be terminated during any period that the customer is not occupying the residence due to his official deployment to an armed conflict on foreign soil or the site of a national or domestic emergency.

B. If a public utility terminates service to a delinquent account without knowledge that such termination violates this section, the public utility shall promptly reconnect such service upon receipt of evidence that the account is that of a customer who satisfies the conditions set forth in subsection A.
