2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, the George C. Marshall High School boys' basketball team of Fairfax County Public Schools capped the 2005-2006 season with a trip to the Virginia High School League Group AAA State Tournament semifinal game on March 8, 2006, at the Siegel Center in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, the George C. Marshall Statesmen defeated four opponents in the regional and the state playoffs and held their own in an exciting game against B. T. Washington High School of Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, the Statesmen battled down to the wire in an intense game that had nine ties and six lead changes to lose, 46-48, when the Norfolk team made a turnaround jumper in the lane with one second left on the clock; and
WHEREAS, the Statesmen, under the leadership of Head Coach Kevin Weeren, worked tirelessly throughout the season and demonstrated a remarkable level of teamwork, sportsmanship, and athletic skill on the court; and
WHEREAS, the Statesmen's outstanding season is a tribute to the hard work and perseverance of the athletes, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the spirited support of the Fairfax County community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the George C. Marshall High School boys' basketball team be commended and congratulated on its outstanding performance; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Kevin Weeren as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the accomplishments of the George C. Marshall High School boys' basketball team.
