HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 553 Offered March 8, 2006 Commending the Great Bridge High School wrestling team. ---------- Patrons-- Cosgrove; Senator: Blevins ---------- Unanimous consent to introduce ----------

WHEREAS, the Wildcats from Chesapeake's Great Bridge High School garnered their ninth consecutive team title in the Virginia High School League Group AAA state wrestling tournament at Robinson High School in Fairfax on February 25, 2006; and

WHEREAS, this wrestling dynasty has amassed an unparalleled record, claimed 18 state team titles in the past 20 years, and presented its new coach, Norman Smith, with a state title; and

WHEREAS, the Wildcats' achievements are attributable to the spirit and dedication of every member of the squad and to their united efforts to succeed; and

WHEREAS, their accumulated points in the tournament earned the Wildcats their championship title; and

WHEREAS, within the Wildcats’ team effort there were several notable individual state title performances, including Jordan Frishkorn's third title in the 130-pound class, Adam Pittman's second title in the 135-pound class, Junior Pearman's third title in the 140-pound class, Derek Gallagher's second title in the 152-pound class, and Scott Cust's and Trey Rogers' first titles in the 160-pound and 215-pound classes, respectively; and

WHEREAS, the hard work, dedication, and effort of the Great Bridge Wildcats merits the admiration of their fellow students and the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Great Bridge High School wrestling team on its remarkable success and its 2006 Virginia High School League Group AAA state wrestling title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Norman Smith in recognition of the Great Bridge High School wrestling team's extraordinary record.
