WHEREAS, Rob R. Gordon, Jr., a stellar member and respected leader of American Legion Colonial Heights Post No. 284, is currently serving as National Executive Committeeman for the Department of Virginia, 2005-2007; and

WHEREAS, born in Suffolk, Rob Gordon graduated from Franklin High School and received a diploma in metallurgy from the Metals Engineering Institute in Metals Park, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Rob Gordon served his country in the Army of the United States as an intelligence and operations specialist assigned to the Strategic Air Command at the Royal Air Force Station, Upper Heyford, United Kingdom, from 1954 to 1956; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and fervent Virginia Legionnaire, Rob Gordon has served in many leadership positions including Department Commander, Vice Commander, 11th District Commander, Colonial Heights Post No. 84 Commander, President of the Virginia Association of Historians, and instructor for Virginia's American Legion College; and

WHEREAS, Rob Gordon served as alternate National Executive Committeeman and is currently serving on the National Finance Commission; and

WHEREAS, committed to the preservation of history and the great sacrifice Virginians have made to keep America free, Rob Gordon was an active member of the Virginia War Memorial Foundation from 1992 to 1996; and

WHEREAS, Rob Gordon successfully developed and implemented a Legion program in 1995 to recruit active duty military personnel for the Department of Virginia, as well as spearheaded Post 284's donation drives to benefit the Korean War Veterans Memorial in 1989 and the National World War II Memorial in 1999; and

WHEREAS, during a career that spans 27 years, Rob Gordon has represented the American Legion and the veterans of Virginia with great skill, dedication and unremitting commitment to their welfare; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Rob R. Gordon, Jr., for his excellent leadership and many years of valuable service to Virginia’s veterans; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rob R. Gordon, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes in his post as American Legion National Executive Committeeman.
