Commending Anita O. Poston.

WHEREAS, Anita O. Poston, a respected citizen and community supporter, is recognized for her outstanding service to the citizens of Hampton Roads; and

WHEREAS, Anita Poston received a bachelor of arts degree with honors from the University of Maryland and a law degree from The College of William and  Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law, where she was a member of the William and Mary Law Review; and

WHEREAS, Anita Poston, a partner with Vandeventer Black, concentrates her practice in business law, health care, airports, and estate planning and administration and focuses on the representation of hospitals and other health care providers, commercial airports, and small businesses in the Hampton Roads area; and

WHEREAS, some of Anita Poston's notable clients include Norfolk International Airport and the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, both clients for over 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Anita Poston is a member of the boards of Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, The College of William and Mary, RBC Centura Bank, the South Hampton Roads Regional Board, the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners, the Tidewater Scholarship Foundation, and Kids Voting Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Anita Poston is a member and former president of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Associations, and  the Virginia Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Anita Poston has been active in many civic and professional organizations, including as a board member and chairman of the Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association/WHRO and the Norfolk School Board, and as a board  member of the Virginia Women Attorneys, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Hampton Roads Tax Forum, the Tidewater Estate Planning Council, the American Inns of Court, the Godwin Society of the Virginia Community College System, the Virginia Law Foundation Council of Fellows, and the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference; and

WHEREAS, Anita Poston also serves on the Legal Committee of the Airports Council International, North America; and

WHEREAS, because of her legal acumen and outstanding achievements, Anita Poston has received numerous honors including the 1992 Professional Woman of Hampton Roads Award, the 2001 Citizen Lawyer Award from The College of William and Mary, and the 2003 Inside Business' Women in Business Achievement Award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Anita O. Poston for her many accomplishments and her outstanding service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anita O. Poston as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her dedication to the well-being of Hampton Roads and its citizens.
