2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy III, after serving in the Amherst County Commonwealth's Attorney's office for 15 years, retired from office effective December 31, 2005; and
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy was born March 20, 1939, the son of William Starke Mundy, Jr., and Virginia Winfree Mundy; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from college, William Starke Mundy served our nation in the United States Army in the surface-to-air missile unit; and
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy completed his military service and entered Washington and Lee University School of Law where he earned his law degree; and
WHEREAS, upon completing law school, William Starke Mundy joined the firm of Davies and Farmer in Lynchburg, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy moved to Amherst County in 1970, establishing a successful legal firm; and
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy began prosecuting criminals and was named Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Amherst County on January 1, 1990; and
WHEREAS, appointed acting Amherst County Commonwealth’s Attorney, William Starke Mundy completed the unexpired term of Ed Meeks; and
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy was elected Amherst County Commonwealth’s Attorney in a special election held on November 4, 2003, winning 99.98% of the vote and served until his retirement on December 31, 2005; and
WHEREAS, William Starke Mundy and his wife, Margaret, continue to reside in Amherst, where he enjoys hunting, golf, cooking, farming, and riding his motorcycle; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note and commend Commonwealth’s Attorney William Starke Mundy III for his dedicated service to the people of Amherst County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William Starke Mundy III as an expression of the General Assembly’s highest regard and best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement.
