Commending Sasha DiGiulian.

WHEREAS, Sasha DiGiulian of Old Town Alexandria, a seventh grader at The Potomac School in McLean, is the national champion rock climber in her age group; and

WHEREAS, in the summer of 2005, Sasha DiGiulian captured first place among the 12- and 13-year olds at the three-day United States Bouldering Championships in Boston; and

WHEREAS, at the Canadian Nationals in Montreal in June 2005, Sasha DiGiulian competed in the women's open division, which included all ages, and finished an incredible second place overall; and

WHEREAS, in November 2004, Sasha DiGiulian took first place at the North American Championships held in Mexico City; and

WHEREAS, Sasha DiGiulian has been rock climbing for five years and first experienced the sport at her brother Charlie's birthday party at Sports Rock in Alexandria when she was seven years old and found she was a natural; and

WHEREAS, Sasha DiGiulian is a member of Coach Zidulescu's Evolution Climbing team, a 10-member club made up of skilled climbers, who meet monthly and compete at the annual Nationals and other competitions; and

WHEREAS, Coach Zidulescu said that Sasha DiGiulian will be old enough to compete at the World Championships in Austria in the fall of 2006; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Sasha DiGiulian on winning the 2006 United States Youth Bouldering Championship in her age group; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sasha DiGiulian as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes in her future endeavors.
