WHEREAS, the contributions of Dottie Bennett and Ann Bennett to their community exemplify a deep commitment to public service spanning two generations; and

WHEREAS, this mother and daughter were honored on March 26, 2006, by the Gesher Jewish Day School as outstanding leaders of the school in its mission to serve all of Northern Virginia and for their support of the school’s new building project; and

WHEREAS, Dottie Bennett's tireless energy and devotion to education are illustrated by her more than 20 years as a teacher; her chairing of Project Interchange, an institute of the American Jewish Committee that sends persons of all faiths to Israel for educational purposes; her past chairing of the National Council of the American Jewish Committee; her appointment by the President in 2004 to serve on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Council; and many other public endeavors; and

WHEREAS, in 2003 Dottie Bennett was the recipient of the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for fostering tolerance and understanding between the United States and Germany; and

WHEREAS, Dottie Bennett's public spirit and devotion to the Gesher School and education extends to her whole family—her daughter Ann Bennett, her son-in-law Bob Green, and grandchildren Zachary, Ariello, and Jared; and

WHEREAS, Ann Bennett, in addition to her many contributions to the Gesher School, has served on the boards of the Aguidas Achim Congregation, the Washington, D.C., Chapter of the American Jewish Congress, the Keshet Child Development Center, and the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia, and received the 2001 Dick Young Leadership Award from the Jewish Federation; and

WHEREAS, Dottie and Ann Bennett, through their multiple accomplishments, have benefited and continue to provide leadership to their community, this Commonwealth, and beyond; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dottie Bennett and Ann Bennett on the scope and success of their many civic involvements; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dottie Bennett and Ann Bennett as evidence of the admiration and respect of the General Assembly and its gratitude for their continuing contributions to their community.
