WHEREAS, Alton F. Owen, Sr., owner of the Owen Ford dealership in Jarratt, is a respected businessman and community leader; and

WHEREAS, Alton Owen has worked to establish and to expand the services of Greensville Memorial Hospital and he supports volunteer rescue squads and fire departments, the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society; and

WHEREAS, a public servant, Alton Owen has served nine terms as mayor of Jarratt and four terms on the Jarratt Town Council, and was appointed by Presidents Reagan and Bush to the Small Business Administration Advisory Council and by Governor L. Douglas Wilder to the Southside Marketing Council; and

WHEREAS, a supporter of higher education, Alton Owen has been a member of the board of trustees of the University of Richmond and has established a scholarship fund for High Hills Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, as a business leader, Alton Owen has worked to bring economic development to Greensville County and has been a longtime active member of the Jarratt Ruritan Club; and

WHEREAS, Alton Owen's many efforts to better his community were recognized nationally when he was one of nine dealers to receive Ford Motor Company's Salute to Dealers Award in February 2006; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Alton F. Owen, Sr., on his national recognition; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alton F. Owen, Sr., in recognition of his many accomplishments and in thanks for his community service.
