HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 511
Commending the Reverend Robert C. Davis.

WHEREAS, the Reverend Robert C. Davis is recognized for his many years of service as an outstanding teacher for the Richmond Public Schools and 25 years of ministry at Union Baptist Church in South Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Davis was born in Richmond, graduated from Armstrong High School with honors, earned a bachelor's degree in social science from Virginia Union University, received a master's degree in education administration and supervision from Virginia State College, and continued postgraduate study at Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, Robert Davis served his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1955 and was assigned to Korea, Germany, and Italy; and

WHEREAS, an excellent teacher, Robert Davis taught social studies at Thomas H. Henderson Middle School until his retirement in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Davis was licensed and ordained to preach at the Fifth Baptist Church and pastored at the Antioch Baptist Church in Varina before joining the Union Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, a respected preacher, teacher, and author, Reverend Davis is in great demand for ministry and revivals throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Davis joined the Union Baptist Church as its head minister and has faithfully served the congregation for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, a leader in the church community, Reverend Davis has served as a delegate of the Progressive National Baptist Convention and as a member of the Southside Ministerial Alliance, the Baptist General Convention, the National Baptist Convention, and numerous other ministerial and leadership conferences; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Reverend Robert C. Davis on his 25 years of loyal service at Union Baptist Church; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Robert C. Davis as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for a continually joyful and successful ministry.
