2006 SESSION
069750300WHEREAS, Patricia Tuttle-Newby, a seventh grade social studies teacher at Gunston Middle School, was named the 2005 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award winner from the Arlington County Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, the Washington Post Educational Foundation presents the annual award to one teacher from each of the Washington area's 19 public school districts and to one private school teacher who exemplify excellence in teaching and contribute to improving education; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Tuttle-Newby received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a master of arts degree in teaching social studies from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, in 1988 Patricia Tuttle-Newby began her teaching career with The Close Up Foundation, teaching high school students from across the nation a week-long civics seminar in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Tuttle-Newby came to Gunston Middle School in 1995 and has proved to be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher who readily volunteers to pilot new initiatives and programs; and
WHEREAS, committed to the education and the well-being of all of her students, Patricia Tuttle-Newby is a compassionate and gifted educator and a worthy recipient of the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Patricia Tuttle-Newby for her well-earned recognition as a 2005 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award winner from the Arlington County Public Schools; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia Tuttle-Newby as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her exceptional commitment to the education of the young people of Arlington County.
