Celebrating the life of Frank Alan Pollard II.

WHEREAS, the unexpected passing of Frank Alan Pollard II on February 16, 2006, at the age of 46, has saddened his family, many friends, business associates, and the Roanoke community; and

WHEREAS, a talented and visionary restaurateur, Frank Pollard opened Corned Beef, his first restaurant in Roanoke, in the Market Building in 1985,  then moved Corned Beef to 107 Jefferson Street in 1991 and oversaw its expansion from a capacity of 140 to over 1,000, and added an outdoor deck, game room, and stage for live music; and

WHEREAS, Al Pollard's restaurant enterprises enlivened downtown Roanoke and included the upscale Frankie Rowland's Steak House across from Corned Beef and reached beyond the city with the opening of 419 West in southwest Roanoke County and a second Frankie Rowland's Steak House in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Al Pollard's contributions to Roanoke were recognized by the city's Chamber of Commerce in 2002 when Corned Beef won the Chamber's Small Business of the Year award; and

WHEREAS, involvement in his community ranged beyond Al Pollard’s own business interests and included part ownership in the Roanoke Express hockey team, ownership of other properties in the area, and membership on the board of the Miss Virginia Pageant; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the untimely loss of Frank Alan Pollard II; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Frank Alan Pollard II as an expression of the General Assembly's sincere appreciation for his many contributions and its deep regret upon his death.
