HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 461
Celebrating the life of Montie Benn Felts.

WHEREAS, Montie Benn Felts of Mechanicsville, a respected citizen and an active community supporter, died on February 26, 2006; and

WHEREAS, in 1968 Montie Felts courageously served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive, receiving the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, and the Bronze Star; and

WHEREAS, an exemplary employee of Woody Funeral Homes for 38 years, Montie Felts served as a funeral director and administrator of the Laburnum Chapel; and

WHEREAS, Montie Felts was a member of the Mechanicsville Businessmen’s Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9808, and the Acca Shriners; and

WHEREAS, Montie Felts was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Lee-Jackson Camp, the American Legion, and the Northside Masonic Lodge #292 AF & AM; and

WHEREAS, concerned with the well-being of citizens in need in his community, Montie Felts was a life member of New Bridge Baptist Church in Sandston and was involved in its many outreach programs; and

WHEREAS, Montie Felts will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and missed by Janice, his wife of 34 years, his two daughters, numerous other family members and friends, and the congregation of New Bridge Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Montie Benn Felts; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Montie Benn Felts as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
