HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 458
Commending the University of Virginia.

WHEREAS, since its inception, 838 alumni of the University of Virginia have joined the ranks of the Peace Corps, working in such diverse fields as education, health, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, information technology, business development, the environment, and agriculture, thereby making the University of Virginia the 33rd-highest producer of Peace Corps Volunteers in the Corps' history; and

WHEREAS, for the first time this year, the Peace Corps has tabulated rankings for Peace Corps Volunteers with advanced degrees, and the University of Virginia is ranked 23rd on that list, with seven alumni with advanced degrees currently serving as Peace Corps Volunteers; and

WHEREAS, with 80 alumni serving as Peace Corps Volunteers, the University of Virginia ranks fifth highest among all colleges and universities, regardless of size, in the number of alumni who currently serve as Peace Corps Volunteers; and

WHEREAS, the University of Virginia ranks number one, for the fourth year in a row, among medium-size colleges and universities, as defined by the Peace Corps, in the number of alumni who currently serve as Peace Corps Volunteers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the University of Virginia as a top producer of Peace Corps Volunteers; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leigh Grossman, Vice-Provost for International Affairs at the University of Virginia, as an expression of the gratitude of the General Assembly of Virginia for the University of Virginia's successful service to the Peace Corps.
