2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, James C. Chesley, who has served the citizens of the Town of Clifton as mayor since 1992, has decided not to seek reelection to the position; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Virginia Tech and the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, James Chesley has been an employee of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Bethesda, Maryland, since 1967; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Clifton Town Council since 1984, James Chesley has served as mayor since July of 1992; and
WHEREAS, James Chesley is a former chairman of the Clifton Architectural Review Board, has served as chairman of the Clifton Town Hall since 1981, and is the town liaison to Norfolk-Southern Railroad and the Virginia Railway Express, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and the Fairfax County Police Department; and
WHEREAS, James Chesley has served in leadership positions in numerous regional and statewide organizations, including the Virginia Municipal League, the Northern Virginia Regional Planning Commission, the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials, the Virginia Resources Authority Advisory Board, and the Occoquan Watershed Coalition; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Clifton since 1976, James Chesley is a past president and member of the board of directors of the Clifton Lions Club and is the founder and chairman of the Clifton Labor Day Car Show, a local charitable fund-raising event; and
WHEREAS, for 30 years, James Chesley has served the citizens of Clifton and Fairfax County with admirable skill and dedication; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend James C. Chesley on the occasion of his retirement as mayor of the Town of Clifton; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mayor James C. Chesley as an expression of the admiration, respect, and gratitude of the General Assembly.
