Commending Rosemary Tran Lauer and Devotion to Children.

WHEREAS, Rosemary Tran Lauer is president and founder of Devotion to Children, an organization dedicated to helping working families with young children pay for childcare; and

WHEREAS, Devotion to Children, a nonprofit organization, was founded in Northern Virginia in 1994 by Rosemary Tran Lauer and her friends who were concerned about the lack of access to early childhood education for Virginia families with limited  resources that did not qualify for governmental assistance; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Lauer embodies an American success story; she escaped Vietnam with her three-year-old and five-month-old children, and immigrated to the United States in 1975; and

WHEREAS, with no formal college education and very little English, Rosemary Lauer persevered and became the owner of three beauty salons and is now a commercial realtor; and

WHEREAS, today Rosemary Lauer gives back to the community by donating 10%  of her income to Devotion to Children; and she raises funds and awareness for the program that primarily helps Asian immigrants; and

WHEREAS, Devotion to Children is also assisting hurricane victims with young children in need of childcare in order that they may rebuild their lives; and

WHEREAS, Devotion to Children's mission is to promote better educational services for children under age six, to inform the public about the need for those services, to collaborate with other organizations that have similar goals in order to best meet children's needs, to promote greater accessibility to high quality early childhood education for children under the age of six, and to assist financially burdened families in obtaining high quality early education services and programs for young children; and

WHEREAS, Devotion to Children has been true to its mission and is dedicated to providing opportunities for immigrant families to have safe, loving child care options so they may have a fresh start; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rosemary Tran Lauer and Devotion to Children for providing access to affordable, quality preschool and day care health and educational services for children under six years of age; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rosemary Tran Lauer and Devotion to Children as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for serving families in the Commonwealth.
