Celebrating the life of Dr. Louis Whitfield Painter, Sr.

WHEREAS, Dr. Louis Whitfield Painter, Sr., a retired Salem dentist who was active in a variety of community organizations, died on January 27, 2006; and

WHEREAS, a veteran of service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Painter was a dentist in Salem from 1957 until his retirement in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Painter was the author of two books and an enthusiastic fan of Virginia Tech's athletic teams; and

WHEREAS, active in community affairs, Dr. Painter was a longtime member of the Salem Host Lions Club and was past elder at the Salem Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Painter was well-known in the community for serving as the "Popcorn Man" at the Salem Host Lions Club concession stand at Salem Stadium, home of the Salem High School Spartans and host of the NCAA Division III football championship; and

WHEREAS, throughout a life of significant achievement, Dr. Painter served his family, his patients, and his community with dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with sadness the passing of an exceptional Virginian, Dr. Louis Whitfield Painter, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Louis Whitfield Painter, Sr., as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
