WHEREAS, in 1956 the citizens of the Bailey's Crossroads community saw the need for organized baseball for the youth of their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, with several hundred players using school-provided fields, the Bailey’s Crossroads Little League was born; and
WHEREAS, in 1978 the Bailey’s Crossroads Little League merged with the Annandale Little League and formed the Columbia Pike Little League; and
WHEREAS, the Columbia Pike Little League changed its name to Mason District Little League in 1986; and
WHEREAS, by 2006, its 50th anniversary, the Mason District Little League has grown to 280 players playing on seven fields; and
WHEREAS, over the decades, thousands of parents, grandparents, children, and volunteers have participated in and contributed to the success of the Mason District Little League; and
WHEREAS, by teaching teamwork and fair play, the many Mason District Little League volunteers have contributed to the development of honest, productive, and decent citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Mason District Little League on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Mason District Little League as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for its continued success.
