2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Ryan King, aged 13, of Woodbridge, is recognized as a distinguished finalist in the 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Award program for his impressive community service activities; and
WHEREAS, the prestigious award, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, was established in 1995 to honor young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
WHEREAS, Ryan King, a seventh-grader at Lake Ridge Middle School, helped plan and implement a donation drive that brought in 37 bags of nonperishable food items, 25 bags of personal care items, and 40 bags of clothing for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, Ryan King was also instrumental in organizing a school dance that raised $2,000 for his school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter; and
WHEREAS, the spirit of volunteerism, the strength of the Commonwealth’s communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Ryan King, who give their time and talents to aid their fellow citizens in need; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Ryan King as a distinguished finalist in the 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Award program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ryan King as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his exemplary commitment to helping others.
