Celebrating the life of Corporal George A. Lutz II.

WHEREAS, United States Army Corporal George A. Lutz II, aged 25, of Virginia Beach, died in the line of duty in Fallujah, Iraq, on December 29, 2005; and

WHEREAS, George A. "Tony" Lutz grew up in Virginia Beach, graduated from Atlantic Shores Christian School in 1999 and was a member of the cross-country and baseball teams; he attended Shenandoah University in Winchester, where he ran cross-country; and

WHEREAS, Tony Lutz left college and fell in love with his wife Tiffany and the couple started a family; and

WHEREAS, Tony Lutz enlisted in the United States Army in 2002, was a dedicated and disciplined soldier, and was very proud to serve his country; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Lutz was assigned to the 9th Psychological Operations Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group, United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, which is based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, before serving in Iraq, Corporal Lutz was deployed to the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, where he aided many people in a devastated area of Mississippi and saved the lives of one elderly couple who were trapped in their home in a neighborhood thought to be totally abandoned; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Lutz was a loving father and devoted son and was always concerned for the well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Lutz loved his church and his country; believed in duty, honor, and military service; and was an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Redskins football team; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Lutz's death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of young Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Corporal George A. Lutz II; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Corporal George A. Lutz II as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia.
