Commending Sarah Terry.

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry, an outstanding and revered community advocate and visionary leader, is recognized for her longtime service to the Town of Farmville and Prince Edward County; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry is a respected former member of the Longwood University Board of Visitors, serving from 1999 to 2003; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure on the board, Sarah Terry served in numerous key leadership positions, including as a member and secretary of the Executive Committee, chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee and Nominating Committee, vice-chair of the Student Affairs Committee and University Advancement Committee, and member of the Administration, Finance, and Facilities Committee; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry was the first professional executive director of the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce and served in that position from 1994 to 1999; and

WHEREAS, a gifted and experienced leader, Sarah Terry defined the role of executive director and expanded the Farmville Chamber's mission to include programs that would benefit the entire region; and

WHEREAS, among her many impressive accomplishments, Sarah Terry implemented the first membership directory, established the Leadership Farmville program, invited a diverse group of speakers to appear at membership luncheons, recruited state and federal officials as guest speakers, offered special workshops for members, and nearly doubled membership of local businesses; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry was instrumental in organizing a "walk for inclusiveness" in the Farmville community and greatly expanded the Farmville Christmas Show; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry was invaluable in the development of the Poplar Hill Golf Course and other economic development projects in the community; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry is most proud of her role, along with Ken Woodley, in the General Assembly's passage of the Virginia Uninsured Medical Catastrophe Fund in 1999; the fund, administered by the Department of Medical Assistance Services, assists uninsured persons who suffer from catastrophic illness; and

WHEREAS, committed to providing excellence in higher education for all of the citizens of Prince Edward County, Sarah Terry generously gives of her time and immense talents in support of Longwood University, as well as Hampden-Sydney College, her son's alma mater; and

WHEREAS, for the past four years, Sarah Terry has continued to faithfully serve the citizens of the Fifth District as legislative aide to Congressman Virgil Goode; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Terry's exuberance, professionalism, and profound wisdom have continually benefited the citizens of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Sarah Terry for her exemplary leadership and dedication to the Town of Farmville and Prince Edward County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sarah Terry as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of her many accomplishments and her continuing service to the citizens of the Commonwealth.
