WHEREAS, Fire Controlman Chief (SEAL) Jacques J. Fontan, United States Navy, was killed in action near Asadabad, Afghanistan, in Kunar Province; and
WHEREAS, Jacques J. Fontan, a Navy SEAL stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with his wife, Charissa, and is also survived by his daughter, Jourdan; and
WHEREAS, Jacques J. Fontan, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, is survived by his parents, Earl Fontan and Hazel Rue, brother Jean Paul and sisters Suzanne and Cherie; and
WHEREAS, Jacques J. Fontan became a SEAL in 1998 after graduating from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training with class 219 at Naval Special Warfare Center, Coronado, California; and
WHEREAS, Jacques J. Fontan distinguished himself as a Navy SEAL earning multiple decorations during his Navy career, including the Bronze Star (with “V” for Valor), Purple Heart, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Combat “V”), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 awards), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3 awards), NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Navy Expert Rifleman Medal, and Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic American, Fire Controlman Chief (SEAL) Jacques J. Fontan; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Fire Controlman Chief (SEAL) Jacques J. Fontan, United States Navy, as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia and the nation.
