Celebrating the life of Lieutenant Michael M. McGreevy.

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Michael M. McGreevy, United States Navy, was killed in action near Asadabad, Afghanistan, in Kunar Province; and

WHEREAS, Michael M. McGreevy, a Navy SEAL stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with his wife, Laura, his daughter, Molly and their dog Loki; and

WHEREAS, Michael M. McGreevy, a native of Portville, New York, attended the United States Naval Academy, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1997 and followed his true passion and became a SEAL; and

WHEREAS, Michael M. McGreevy, became a SEAL in 2000 after graduating from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training as “Honor Man” of class 230 at Naval Special Warfare Center, Coronado, California; and

WHEREAS, Michael M. McGreevy distinguished himself as a Navy SEAL earning multiple decorations during his Navy career, including the Bronze Star (with “V” for Valor), Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 awards), Navy Expert Rifleman Medal, and Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic American, Lieutenant Michael M. McGreevy; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant Michael M. McGreevy, United States Navy, as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia and the nation.
