Celebrating the life of William A. Shaw.

WHEREAS, William A. Shaw of Suffolk, a respected citizen and enthusiastic community supporter, died on February 3, 2006; and

WHEREAS, born on March 10, 1928, in Shenandoah, William Shaw served his country in the United States Army with the occupational forces in Japan following World War II; and

WHEREAS, William Shaw was a dedicated and loyal employee of the Sun Oil Company for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, after leaving Sun Oil, William Shaw worked for Grand Union as a real estate manager and subsequently was involved in property investments, cofounding the successful Star Food Marts; and

WHEREAS, after retirement, William Shaw, an avid golfer, continued to work as the administrator of the Mid-Atlantic franchise, Save the Moment, a unique program that honors golfers who score holes-in-one; and

WHEREAS, William Shaw was an active member of both the North Suffolk Social Club and the Good Shepherd Parish Men’s Club, which sponsored projects to help citizens in need in the Suffolk community; and

WHEREAS, William Shaw will be fondly remembered for his love of life, his passion for golf, and his genuine concern for others and will be missed by his wife and family, his numerous friends and admirers, and the parishioners of Good Shepherd Catholic Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, William A. Shaw; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William A. Shaw as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
