HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 363
Celebrating the life of Glynn Carlock, Sr.

WHEREAS, Glynn Carlock, Sr., the head football coach at Graham High School in Tazewell County for 32 years, died on August 8, 2005; and

WHEREAS, a native of Yukon, West Virginia, Glynn Carlock began his coaching career at Graham High School in 1972, and during his tenure, the Graham G-Men experienced their greatest football success; and

WHEREAS, with 254 career victories and a .671 winning percentage, Coach Glynn Carlock was among the top high school football coaches in Virginia history at the time of his death; and

WHEREAS, in addition to numerous Southwest District and regional titles, Coach Glynn Carlock led the Graham High School G-Men to the state championship game three times, and twice, in 1989 and 1995, the G-Men returned to Bluefield as the Virginia High School League Group AA, Division 3 state football champions; and

WHEREAS, in Coach Glynn Carlock's 32 years of coaching, his team suffered back-to-back losing seasons just once, and the team immediately rebounded by compiling a 13-1 record the following season, capped by a 16-0 victory over Southampton High School for the state title; and

WHEREAS, among his numerous awards, Coach Glynn Carlock was named the Virginia High School League State Football Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1995; and

WHEREAS, a well-known and widely respected leader in the coaching fraternity, Coach Glynn Carlock was a longtime member and former president of the Virginia High School Coaches Association, a member of the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and a member of the Concord University Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, during his outstanding career at Graham High School, Coach Glynn Carlock also coached baseball, soccer, wrestling, basketball, and track; and

WHEREAS, Coach Glynn Carlock's tireless efforts and admirable dedication for more than three decades have made a profound difference in the lives of generations of young people in Tazewell County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an exceptional coach and an inspirational leader, Glynn Carlock, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Glynn Carlock, Sr., as an expression of the great respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
