2006 SESSION
065756300WHEREAS, in January 2006, WRIR-LPFM celebrated a year of having the largest population under its signal of any low-power FM station in the United States broadcasting news as well as music not represented by other media broadcasts; and
WHEREAS, on January 1, 2005, radio station WRIR-LPFM, located in the Richmond metropolitan area, went on the air with an all-volunteer staff of over 100 people; and
WHEREAS, WRIR has been a community leader and is an ongoing resource for local and national nonprofit organizations airing free promotions for public causes; and
WHEREAS, WRIR complements other media by focusing on diversity while presenting ideologies and views not always represented by mainstream media outlets, and it has earned the slogan "radio for the rest of us"; and
WHEREAS, WRIR has drawn listeners from Canada, England, Norway, and South Africa as well as Richmond through web streaming; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate radio station WRIR-LPFM on the occasion of its one-year anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to radio station WRIR-LPFM as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for continued success.
