WHEREAS, The Washington Post honored Stephen Hockett, principal of McNair Elementary School in Herndon, with the Distinguished Educational Leadership Award; and

WHEREAS, the School Board of Fairfax County honored Stephen Hockett as the 2005-2006 Fairfax County Public Schools Principal of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hockett received a bachelor's degree in psychology from California State University, the Ryan Multiple Teaching Credential for grades K-8 from the University of San Francisco, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from George Mason University; and

WHEREAS, an excellent communicator and administrator, Stephen Hockett came to McNair Elementary School in 2005 and began working with teachers, administrators, and staff to identify and address individual instructional needs, enrich student learning, and encourage staff development; and

WHEREAS, admired and respected by students, faculty, and parents, Stephen Hockett is a worthy recipient of The Washington Post's Distinguished Educational Leadership Award and the 2005-2006 Fairfax County Public Schools Principal of the Year award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Stephen Hockett for his leadership and valuable service to the Fairfax County Public Schools; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stephen Hockett as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his many gifts and talents as an educator and administrator and his dedication to the young people of Fairfax County.
