2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Mike Campbell, principal of Westfield High School, was honored with the Nancy F. Sprague First Year Administrator Award and was named Fairfax County Public School's 2006 Outstanding First Year Principal; and
WHEREAS, the Nancy F. Sprague First Year Administrator Award is named in honor of Fairfax County School's chief administrator, who died unexpectedly in 2003 and was known for her dedication and strong leadership skills; and
WHEREAS, on December 6, 2005, Mike Campbell received the news of his distinguished awards in a surprise faculty meeting orchestrated by the faculty of Westfield High School and Deputy Superintendent Brad Draeger; and
WHEREAS, Mike Campbell is an exceptional principal, who "sees solutions where others see no options," and he possesses an amazing attitude that encourages communication and results within the school and the community; and
WHEREAS, Mike Campbell succeeded a dynamic principal, but soon proved himself to be a visionary leader and outstanding administrator who has earned the respect of students, faculty, and parents; and
WHEREAS, Mike Campbell added two subschools at Westfield High School, which has over 3,150 students, decreasing the number of students reporting to each and allowing assistant principals and faculty to get to know their students better; and
WHEREAS, Mike Campbell has added many other innovative programs and school activities, which serve students well and allow them to perform at higher academic levels; and
WHEREAS, Mike Campbell has encouraged greater student participation and parent involvement; worked with parents and staff to close the school's minority achievement gap; and continued to find ways to elevate SOL, SAT, and AP test scores; and
WHEREAS, a hard working and conscientious administrator, Mike Campbell is committed to his goal of "excellence in all endeavors" to improve the quality of education for all of the students of Westfield High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Mike Campbell as a recipient of the Nancy F. Sprague First Year Administrator Award and Fairfax County's 2006 Outstanding First Year Principal award; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mike Campbell as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his commitment to the students and faculty of Westfield High School and the citizens of Fairfax County.
