HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 320
Celebrating the life of Elizabeth O'Connell Horner.

WHEREAS, Elizabeth O'Connell Horner, revered citizen of Alexandria and devoted Army wife, died December 24, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Horner was born into an Army family on May 27, 1915, and was affectionately called "Titter," a childhood derivative of sister, by all who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Titter Horner, with her parents, two sisters and three brothers, lived on many military posts including Fort Shaffer in the Territory of Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, Titter Horner graduated in 1933 from Fayetteville High School in North Carolina, where she held the position of senior class prophet and was known for her equestrian, swimming, golf, and other sports achievements; and

WHEREAS, in 1932 Titter Horner married Second Lieutenant Samuel "Tuffy" Horner II and was a venerable military wife for 57 years; and

WHEREAS, Titter Horner and her family lived in numerous places, including the Philippines and Naples, Italy, before finally settling in Alexandria, where she was an active member of the Beverly Hills Garden Club; and

WHEREAS, she was a loving mother of a son and a daughter, and grandmother of two children and great-grandmother of four; and

WHEREAS, Titter Horner was an exemplary military wife and a dedicated volunteer; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of a fine Virginian, Elizabeth O'Connell Horner; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Elizabeth O'Connell Horner as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
