WHEREAS, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, developing from a community ensemble into the outstanding professional regional orchestra of the Northern Virginia/Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, will begin its 50th anniversary season in 2006-2007; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Maestro William Hudson for the past 35 years, performs the very finest symphonic music and does so at the highest artistic level, setting a standard aspired to by all other comparable orchestras; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra attracts many of the world's leading soloists, providing musical enjoyment and inspiration to all of the citizens of Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra continues to expand its many educational offerings, which include Overture to Orchestra, SCORE, Classical Kids Club, FSO Affiliate Youth Orchestras and other programs for the benefit of young musicians; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra is noted for its many collaborations with local artistic organizations including choral groups and dance companies; and
WHEREAS, for more than 40 years, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra has sponsored the Dorothy Farnham Feuer Memorial String Competition, which identifies and encourages the aspirations of young musicians; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra offers free summer concerts in Fairfax County parks featuring the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra Summer Band and ensembles of woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments; and
WHEREAS, for over a quarter-century, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra has served as orchestra in residence at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, providing neighboring counties with beautiful music, acclaimed performances, and outreach from Fairfax County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and its gifted conductor and musicians on their artistic excellence and outstanding service to the community of Fairfax and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Maestro William Hudson and the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra as an expression of the General Assembly's wish for their continued success as they enter their 50th anniversary season.
