2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Charles Emmett Olive served in the United States Merchant Marines in the South Pacific during World War II and is a 31-year veteran of the Virginia Department of State Police; and
WHEREAS, a native of King George County, Charles E. Olive graduated from King George County High School, played professional baseball from 1949 to 1950 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Charles E. Olive served his country in the United States Army Reserve with the 80th Division, achieved the rank of colonel, and retired in 1983 after 41 years of exemplary military service; and
WHEREAS, Charles E. Olive continued his education by attending the United States Army Combat Engineering School, the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, the Army Command and General Staff College, the University of North Florida, and the University of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Charles E. Olive became a Virginia State Trooper on September 1, 1955, and served the Commonwealth with great distinction until his retirement on September 1, 1986, attaining the rank of major; and
WHEREAS, as a captain in charge of personnel and training, Charles E. Olive promoted advanced standards of training and implemented new human resources programs; and
WHEREAS, during his service with the Virginia Department of State Police, Charles E. Olive was invaluable in promoting professionalism, leadership, and educational excellence; and
WHEREAS, Charles E. Olive excelled with Reid Psychological Associates as vice president of the Public Safety Division, working with chiefs of police and sheriffs across the nation; and
WHEREAS, for over 17 years, Charles E. Olive contributed to the growth of personal integrity in the law-enforcement profession through the psychological testing of prospective applicants; and
WHEREAS, Charles E. Olive continues to serve his country by swearing in new recruits for the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, a loving father, grandfather, and devoted Christian, Charles E. Olive is greatly admired and respected by his family, numerous friends and associates, and the residents of King George County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Charles Emmett Olive for his numerous accomplishments and outstanding public service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles Emmett Olive as an expression of the gratitude of the General Assembly for his dedication to the citizens of the Commonwealth and the nation.
