Commending Richard S. Sanborn.

WHEREAS, Chief Magistrate Richard S. Sanborn, who served the 31st Judicial District, retired on January 1, 2006, after 31 years of outstanding service to Prince William County and the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, after serving his country in the United States Marine Corps for more than 20 years, Richard Sanborn began his career as a judicial officer when he was elected justice of the peace in 1971; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant and skilled administrator, Richard Sanborn was appointed magistrate of the 31st Judicial District in 1974 and chief magistrate in 1985; and

WHEREAS, as chief magistrate, Richard Sanborn implemented numerous positive improvements, as well as new programs which greatly enhanced the fair and efficient administration of justice; and

WHEREAS, during his long and impeccable career, Richard Sanborn, through his tireless dedication and vast experience, provided outstanding leadership to the 31st Judicial District as chief magistrate; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Richard S. Sanborn on his distinguished service as an exemplary judicial officer and chief magistrate; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Richard S. Sanborn as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his devotion to the citizens of Prince William County and the Commonwealth and wish him happiness in his well-deserved retirement.
