Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 18.2-236.1 as follows:
§ 18.2-236.1. Regulation of the sale of halal food; penalty.
Any person who, with intent to defraud, sells or exposes for sale any food such as, but not limited to, meat and meat preparations, that is falsely represented to be halal, whether such meat or meat preparation or other food be raw or prepared for human consumption, or who falsely labels any food product or the contents of any package or container to be constituted and prepared in accordance with halal certification requirements under Islamic dietary laws in any language, shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
