062843232Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 8.01-226.11 as follows:
§ 8.01-226.11. No civil liability for retired law-enforcement officers.
A retired law-enforcement officer, in the absence of gross negligence or willful misconduct, shall not be liable in a civil action for any act he commits in responding to an emergency or attempting to thwart the commission of a crime, including the use of justifiable deadly force in the defense of himself or another.
