068826444Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Chapter 1 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-116 as follows:
§ 46.2-116. Local ordinances may require certain criminal background checks.
The governing body of any county, city, or town may by ordinance require that applicants for licensure as taxicab operators in that county, city, or town be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigation as authorized by federal law. Any such ordinance may provide for the imposition of a fee on applicants for licensure to cover the costs of fingerprinting and criminal background checks.
