Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Chapter 26 of Title 2.2 an article numbered 32, consisting of a section numbered 2.2-2698 as follows:
§ 2.2-2698. Commonwealth Telework Council; purpose; membership; chairman.
A. The Commonwealth Telework Council (the Council) is established as an advisory council, within the meaning of § 2.2-2100, in the executive branch of state government. The purpose of the Council shall be to advise the Governor on strategies for increasing public and private employee participation in telecommuting and alternative work schedules and methods to encourage management personnel in the public and private sector to promote telecommuting and alternative work schedules for eligible employees.
B. The Council shall consist of 15 members appointed by the Governor. At least nine of the members shall reside in either the Northern Virginia or Tidewater regions of the Commonwealth. Members shall be appointed for a term of two years.
C. The Governor shall appoint the chairman of the Council.
D. The Secretary of Administration shall provide staff support to the Council.
2. That the provisions of this act shall expire on July 1, 2008.
