SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE: (all summaries)
Uniform Statewide Building Code and State Fire Prevention Code; applicability to certain transportation assets owned by the Virginia Department of Transportation. Provides that the Uniform Statewide Building Code and the State Fire Prevention Code do not apply to roadway tunnels and bridges owned by the Department of Transportation. Such structures are to be designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with fire safety standards that are based on nationally recognized model codes and standards. The standards will be developed by the Department in consultation with the State Fire Marshal and approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board. Under the bill, the Department is required to report annually to the State Fire Marshall on the maintenance and operability of installed fire protection and detection systems in roadway tunnels and on bridges.
