SUMMARY AS ENACTED WITH GOVERNOR'S RECOMMENDATION:

Line of Duty Act; disabled State Employees.  Extends the Act's benefits to any state public safety employee whose disability occurred on or after January 1, 1972.  Retroactive to October 7, 2001, the bill also requires the state to provide an additional death benefit in the amount of $20,000 for every employee of the Commonwealth or of a political subdivision called to federal active duty services to be paid if the employee is killed in action in any armed conflict while serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard of the United Sates, or with any reserve component of these respective services.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Line of Duty Act; disabled State Police officers; reimbursement of health insurance premiums.  Provides that beginning July 1, 2005, any state police officer (i) who became disabled during the period between April 8, 1972 and July 1, 2000, (ii) whose disability occurred while in the line of duty as the direct or proximate result of the performance of his duty, and (iii) whose disability arose out of and in the course of his employment, shall be entitled to reimbursement of any health insurance premiums paid by such officer during the time period stated above. The bill requires the officer to present his claim to Superintendent of the Department of State Police on forms to be provided by the State Comptroller's office.
