2005 SESSION
WHEREAS, in recognition of his numerous civic and volunteer contributions to Herndon and Fairfax County, Mukit Hossain was named the Herndon Times' Citizen of the Year for 2004; and
WHEREAS, Mukit Hossain is one of the founders of Project Hope and Harmony, which represents various faith communities, nonprofit organizations, and community volunteers who are working to create an organized day labor site in Herndon and provide social services to the workers; and
WHEREAS, in November 2004, Mukit Hossain learned that many of the day laborers did not have winter coats, and working with the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS), he raised $10,000 within hours to buy new coats for the laborers and their families; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Sterling, Mukit Hossain is on the board of trustees for the ADAMS Center in Sterling and the board of directors for the Foundation for Appropriate and Immediate Temporary Help (FAITH) in Herndon; and
WHEREAS, Mukit Hossain is the founder of the Food Source Foundation, which provides meals to homeless people in Fairfax County, and has previously been involved with food banks and Meals on Wheels; and
WHEREAS, in honor of his "extraordinary acts of service to the community," Mukit Hossain was the recipient of the November 2004 Best of Herndon Dulles Award from the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Mukit Hossain continues to devote his considerable energy and positive attitude to the betterment of the lives of the less-fortunate members of the Herndon and Fairfax County communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mukit Hossain on being named Herndon's 2004 Citizen of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mukit Hossain as an expression of the appreciation and admiration of the General Assembly for his dedication to the welfare of the citizens of Herndon and Fairfax County.
