058463712WHEREAS, Virginia Army National Guard Sergeant David Alan Ruhren, a resident of Stafford County, was killed in action in Mosul, Iraq, on December 21, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ruhren was a 2002 graduate of Gar-Field High School; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ruhren enlisted in the 229th Engineer Battalion, Virginia Army National Guard when he was 17; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ruhren was assigned to Company C, 276th Engineer Battalion, Virginia Army National Guard, when that unit was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ruhren arrived in Iraq with the 276th Engineer Battalion, Virginia Army National Guard, in March 2004; and
WHEREAS, on December 21, 2004, Sergeant David Ruhren, his friend and fellow soldier Sergeant Nicholas Mason, and other service members lost their lives as a result of a terrorist attack on their installation; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant David Alan Ruhren’s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of young Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic American, Sergeant David Alan Ruhren; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant David Alan Ruhren as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia.
