WHEREAS, Marie Brown Davis of Rocky Mount, wife and best friend of C. J. Davis, Jr., and mother of Charles J. Davis, III, and Anne B. Davis, died on January 1, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Marie Davis held on to life to experience the joy of 66 years of marriage to C. J., which included steadfast support during his service to the Commonwealth as chief probation and parole officer, and until such time as all her family could surround her; and

WHEREAS, Marie Davis was loved for her warmth and friendliness and for her devotion to her community and to the United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Marie Davis was honored to have worked for the esteemed T. B. Stanley, who during World War II served as chairman of Stanley Furniture Company and later served as Governor of Virginia (1954-1958); and

WHEREAS, a fixture of the Franklin County financial community for a quarter-century, Marie Davis worked for Peoples National Bank and its successor, First Virginia Bank, from which she retired as assistant vice president; and

WHEREAS, Marie Davis was recognized as one who espoused frugality and a common sense approach to life; and

WHEREAS, Marie Davis will be remembered for her love of life and family, her excitement over antique collecting, and her generosity to friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with sadness the passing of an exceptional citizen of Rocky Mount, Marie Brown Davis; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marie Brown Davis as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
