058452408WHEREAS, Charles F. Pruett of Mechanicsville, an exemplary law-enforcement officer who served the Commonwealth with distinction for over 40 years, died January 11, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Charles Pruett grew up in Kilmarnock, Virginia, and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1961; and
WHEREAS, in 1962 Charles Pruett was hired as a police cadet with the Richmond Bureau of Police, and graduated from the 15th Basic Police Academy in the City of Richmond in 1963; and
WHEREAS, from a starting position in the records department, Charles Pruett advanced to a patrolman assigned to the West End and North Side of Richmond in 1965; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated and superlative law-enforcement officer, Charles Pruett was promoted to the special detective squad assigned to high crime areas of the city; and
WHEREAS, in 1974 Charles Pruett graduated from the Ronson Aviation Flight School and became a pilot in the Richmond Bureau of Police's helicopter patrol; and
WHEREAS, always committed to duty and excellence in law enforcement, Charles Pruett attained the rank of acting sergeant before retiring from the city in 1993; and
WHEREAS, after his retirement, Charles Pruett continued his law-enforcement career as a court bailiff for the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, where he served until 2005; and
WHEREAS, a skilled professional committed to his fellow police officers, Charles Pruett was a member of the Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Richmond Retired Police Officers Association; and
WHEREAS, during his long and outstanding career, Charles Pruett established an exemplary record of service to his family, the City of Richmond, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of an excellent police officer and loyal public servant, Charles F. Pruett; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles F. Pruett as an expression of the General Assembly's great respect for his memory.
