Celebrating the life of Nicole Dawn Kielar.

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar, a paramedic serving on a medical helicopter, died on January 10, 2005, while providing for the medical care of others; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar studied at the University of Virginia, where she earned her bachelor’s degree; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar studied at the Medical College of Virginia, where she earned her master’s degree; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar volunteered for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, beginning in 1996 while a student at the University of Virginia, volunteering 6,000 hours over more than eight years; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar, a member of the Vehicle Rescue Team, the Water Rescue Team, and the Technical Rescue Team, served as a squad training officer, crew captain, duty officer, assistant chief of operations, and board member to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar worked as a flight paramedic on a medical helicopter with LifeEvac that operated from Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar was the flight paramedic on a medical helicopter flight that transferred a cardiac patient from Frederick, Maryland, to Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., on January 10, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar’s medical helicopter crashed into the Potomac River on January 10, 2005, while returning to its hanger after transporting the cardiac patient; and

WHEREAS, Nicole Dawn Kielar died in the crash of the medical helicopter, serving the community and doing that which she loved; and

WHEREAS, all those who knew Nicole Dawn Kielar remember her kindness, laughter, strong personality, and her love of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sorrow the loss of a caring and dedicated Virginian, Nicole Dawn Kielar, who died protecting the life of others; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Nicole Dawn Kielar as an expression of the high regard in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
