2005 SESSION
WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Corporal Christopher Lee Weaver, a resident of Spotsylvania County, was killed in action in Iraq on January 26, 2005; and
WHEREAS, a 1998 graduate of Chancellor High School and an excellent student who enrolled in advanced placement courses, Christopher Weaver was involved as a member of the German and chess clubs and was one of 28 seniors chosen as superlative members of the class; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Weaver, an Eagle Scout with Troop 179 in Fredericksburg, played soccer and engaged in a range of outdoor activities, including an annual Richmond to Williamsburg bicycle ride to benefit multiple sclerosis research; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Weaver joined the Marine Corps Reserves after his freshman year at Virginia Tech, taking a semester away from college for Marine training; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Weaver, who graduated from Virginia Tech in 2002, became a member of Lynchburg-based Company C, part of the Marine Corps Reserve's 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division; and
WHEREAS, Company C, which was activated in June 2004 and deployed to Iraq in September 2004, participated in the search for weapons caches, sweeping roads for explosives, and building fighting positions; and
WHEREAS, on January 26, while leaving the Iraqi town of Haditha, northwest of Baghdad, insurgents ambushed a Marine convoy, and Corporal Christopher Weaver was killed when his vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Weaver's death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of young Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Corporal Christopher Lee Weaver; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Corporal Christopher Lee Weaver as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia.
