2005 SESSION
WHEREAS, Joseph Hills, a world studies teacher at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Fairfax County, was named the Virginia 2005 Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, a teacher for 44 years, Joseph Hills began his career with the Fairfax County public schools at Fairfax High School in 1960; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Hills later taught at Marshall High School and Langley High School before moving to Lake Braddock Secondary School in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Hills was selected Virginia Teacher of the Year from among eight 2005 Regional Teachers of the Year and will represent the Commonwealth at the National Teacher of the Year program, sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers and Scholastic Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Hills, a member of numerous educational associations, including the National Council of Social Studies and the Virginia Council of Social Studies, is also active in various Parent-Teacher Associations; and
WHEREAS, a teacher for more than four decades, Joseph Hills is a past recipient of the prestigious Washington Post Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award and outstanding teacher awards from the University of Chicago and Smith College; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Joseph Hills for his well-earned recognition as the Virginia 2005 Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joseph Hills as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for his exceptional commitment to the education of the young people of Fairfax County.
