2005 SESSION
WHEREAS, on December 11, 2004, at the University of Richmond Stadium, the Monarchs from Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield County played in their first state football championship game; and
WHEREAS, overcoming an early deficit, the Meadowbrook High School football team won the 2004 Virginia High School League Group AAA, Division 5 state championship and became the first football team from Chesterfield County to win a state Group AAA championship; and
WHEREAS, the first football team in school history to win a state title, the Meadowbrook Monarchs put the crowning touch on a 13–1 season by defeating the favored Wolverines of North Stafford High School, 35–27; and
WHEREAS, the road to the state championship was not an easy one for the Monarchs, who had to defeat the defending state champions from Hopewell High School in the Central Region final to advance to the state tournament; and
WHEREAS, in the state semifinals, the Monarchs faced the Hampton High School Crabbers, the most successful team in Virginia High School League history, and prevailed by a score of 20–14; and
WHEREAS, in the state title game, the Meadowbrook Monarchs quickly fell behind the larger and stronger North Stafford Wolverines, 14–0, then used their speed, quickness, and determination to score 35 points to win the championship; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Meadowbrook High School Monarchs is a tribute to the leadership of Head Coach Bill Bowles and his staff; the talent, perseverance, and teamwork of the athletes; and the sustained and enthusiastic support of the Meadowbrook community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the 2004 Meadowbrook High School Monarchs on their state championship season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Bill Bowles in honor of the exceptional and unprecedented performance of the 2004 Meadowbrook High School football team.
